Writing a novel that will sell

It's a great
big
towering
lofty
extensive
long
grueling
exciting
fullfilling
process.

Your Objective: write something you can sell.

Remember that someone's criticism of your work is not a criticism of you.

Edit...a bunch! Everything you write is not carved in stone.  It can be changed and deleted.

Your fist novel is a learning experience whether it’s sellable or not.

Novel - 50,000-350,000 words
Most books – 70,000 – 150,000 words
First Novel usu. 70-80,000 words

When you’re challenged, you stretch and grow.  If you’re feeling really comfortable, you’re probably in a rut and you’re prose isn’t very good.

Most fiction today is complex fortunate, some complex tragic.  These form basis of archplot today.
